Paul Dunne has made an impressive debut on the PGA Tour as he lies only three shots of the lead after the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in California.
The Wicklow native has already played three times on the European Tour since winning his tour card last year in Spain. His best finish was a tie for ninth at the Joburg Open in South Africa earlier this month.
Dunne finished his first round in California on -3, three shots behind leaders Scott Brown and Andrew Loupe. The tournament takes place on the North Course and the South Course at Torrey Pines and Dunne recorded the joint fourth best round of the day on the tougher South Course.
He was -4 through 12 holes after starting on the tenth to be one shot behind the leaders at one point. Dunne dropped a shot on the fourth, before parring the last five holes for a round of 69.
The top-33 players are only separated by three shots and Dunne many be expected to move up the leaderboard today when playing the easier North Course. Of the top-33, 21 players played on the North Course yesterday.
Shane Lowry is also in action at the Farmers Insurance Open. He lies on -1 after playing on the North Course yesterday.
