Following the dramatic news that Rafael Dos Anjos had broken his foot, it was agreed that Nate Diaz would step in to fight Conor McGregor.
Various big-name contenders were banded about including Frankie Edgar and Donald Cerrone but it was Diaz who got the nod in the end.
Instead of the intended lightweight title fight that McGregor and RDA were going to contest, the new pairing will do battle at 170 Ib as the Crumlin man continues his pursuit of multi-weight dominance.

But Nate Diaz seems slightly skeptical about the arrangement. He suspects that the UFC wanted Diaz to be McGregor's opponent from the beginning. Speaking BJPENN.COM, Diaz referred to McGregor's scathing video at the MMA awards last month, in which McGregor dished out some critical comments at fighters on the UFC circuit.
His suspicions were heightened when he discovered that a second video was made, which wasn't intended for broadcast but was leaked afterwards.
''There was no other option, and they knew they were fighting me already, weeks ago. Why did that video come up a while back? There was a video of him dissing me at the MMA awards but I saw the original video and my name wasn’t in it.''
''A couple of weeks ago, what happened, they were trying to get a better fight or something, they were already training for me, they know what's up.''
''It’s a fight, just got to go in there and it’s a case of go in there and kill or be killed you know. I might get marked, I don’t care you know, it’s all good. Or he might.''
