Diaz took the fight on 11 days notice and struggled in the first round as McGregor's punches cut the Californian early in the round. McGregor looked comfortable in the second round before a bloody Diaz took control in the final two minutes before submitting McGregor.
After the fight, Diaz said he was not surprised by the win, while McGregor was humble in defeat as he suffered his first loss in the UFC.

The loss comes as a major blow to McGregor. The Dubliner's welterweight career may be short lived, but he will be expected to fight in the summer at UFC 200. A middleweight title fight against Rafael dos Anjos looks like McGregor's next battle.
Earlier in the night, Miesha Tate choked out Holly Holm to become the Women's Bantamweight Champion. The 29-year-old was victorious in the final two minutes of the round.
Holm's first loss means the future of the Bantamweight division is uncertain. Tate has already been defeated by former champion Ronda Rousey on two occasions. Holm and Rousey may end up in a rematch with the winner facing Tate.
