Is Andy Murray better off without Amelie Mauresmo?

When Andy Murray went two sets to love down to Radek Stepanek earlier this week in the French Open first round, he will have wondered whether he was right to part company with coach Amelie Mauresmo.

Luckily for the 29-year-old, he won the final three sets to book his place in the second round. In his previous eight visits to Roland Garros, Murray only failed to get out of the first round on his debut.

Murray's on-court behaviour was reported as a reason for the split, but speaking at the French Open he said the reports were far from accurate. "To say that is why we stopped working together is untrue. We have a good relationship."

On Tuesday's Off the Ball, former French Open doubles winner Luke Jensen spoke about Murray's split from Mauresmo and whether it will have any bearing on his chances of winning on the Parisian clay.

"He's better when he's angry. He's better when he's ticked off. He just plays better when there's a fire under his tail. When he's that way I find he's tougher... I would say to Amelie Mauresmo; 'You knew exactly what you going to get in to by signing on to this gig'."

"I'd like to see him go solo", without a coach Jensen added. "I don't think you have to have a coach when you have that much experience".

"I would not rush into this next step and get just somebody to get somebody. Get the right person!"

The French Open is the only Grand Slam where Murray has failed to reach the final. He has reached the semi-finals on three occasions, including in the past two years.
