MMA fighter admitted to hospital after Dublin bout

A Portuguese fighter has been admitted to hospital after falling "very ill" after a MMA bout in Dublin's National Stadium.

Joao Carvalho lost his welterweight bout against Irish fighter, Charlie Ward, via TKO at the Total Extreme Fighting (TEF) event on Saturday night.

Carvalho was treated for injuries in the ring but his gym has confirmed his condition deteriorated after the fight and after feeling "very ill" he was rushed to hospital.

The statement translates to: "Last night, was held another edition of TEF-Irish MMA big event, this event has happened in the National Boxing Stadium in Dublin.

 
"The event was supposed to be a great success, full of stars of the MMA world, several athletes of the UFC were there, including [Conor] McGregor, in the front row.
"This event, had the presence of the Portuguese John "Mutt" Oak, athlete nóbrega team that stands out at the national level. "Right after the fight, João Carvalho was taking care of the injuries with the medical office, normal procedure for combat.  After 20 minutes the athlete started feeling very ill and has been forwarded to rush to the hospital, where he is admitted.
 
"Soon we will give you more details, we are in contact with your coach and entrepreneur vitor nóbrega."
