Michael Conlan and Joe Ward lead the Irish challenge in Doha

European champions Michael Conlan and Joe Ward lead the Irish challenge at the AIBA World Elite Championships that begin tomorrow in Qatar. Ward will be looking to improve on his bronze medal from two years ago while Conlan is looking for his first medal at the World Championships.

Brendan Irvine, Dean Walsh and Michael O’Reilly will get Ireland’s campaign underway tomorrow in their last 32 bouts.

The Irish trio, who are making their World Championships debuts, will be in action on Day One of the 18th edition of the tournament in the evening session.

Irish captain Michael Conlan and Joe Ward, both current European Elite champions and seeded three and four in Doha, have received byes into the last 16.

Sean McComb and Adam Nolan are between the ropes on Wednesday.
