There was joy for team Ireland today at the European rowing championships in the Czech Republic, with Mark O'Donovan and Shane O'Driscoll taking gold in the men's lightweight pairs.
The duo, who were in lane one, opened up a commanding lead over the first 1,000m of the race, and stormed to victory in a time of 6:32.34.
Meanwhile, Denise Walsh claimed a silver medal in the lightweight women's single sculls, finishing just two seconds after winner Emma Fredh of Sweden.
After finding herself in fifth place after the first 500m, Walsh rallied to eventually finish in a medal position and place ahead of Switzerland's Patricia Merz, who came first in Walsh's semi-final yesterday.
