Lowry targeting two more low rounds at Turkish Airlines Open this weekend

Shane Lowry feels he'll need two more low rounds if he's to contend this weekend at golf's Turkish Airlines Open.

The Open champion had a mich improved day with the putter in carding a seven-under-par second round of 65 to surge up the leaderboard.

Eight birdies and just one bogey today have helped move the Offaly man up to 25th place and within five shots of halfway leader Matthias Schwab.

Austrian Schwab holds a one-shot advantage over the field at 12-under-par with Alex Noren, Thomas Detry, Ross Fisher and former Masters champion Danny Willett leading the chance.

"Can't remember the last time I shot 65 and felt disappointed with myself to be honest," Lowry said to Denis Kirwan after his round.

"I played lovely out there and gave themselves a lot of chances, had a couple of eagle chances and nearly holed one or two.

"Really happy...it's perfect weather and it's playing pretty easy there, the scoring shows that. I'll need one or two more of those to be in contention this weekend.

"It was one of those days where I only really had eyes for the flag and I felt really good out there. I was hitting the fairways and then my targets with the second shots and then that allowed me to be aggressive into the greens, it was just of those days were it was nice."

Padraig Harrington had a bogey free six-under round of 66 to move to three-under-par.
