Koepka looks back and ready for another major | Golf Weekly

Brooks Koepka will be vying to win his third PGA Championship in-a-row at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco this weekend.

If Koepka can manage it, he will become the first golfer since Walter Hagen in 1927 to win the tournament three times on the bounce.

While that would be an incredible feat for the four-time major winner, it is something that this week's Golf Weekly agreed was well within the bounds of possibility.

Asked who he was tipping going into the first major of 2020, host Joe Molloy immediately namechecked Koepka.

"I would lean towards Brooks," Molloy told guests, Fionn Davenport and Peter Lawrie.

"It would have felt mad that he would win two US Opens in a row and two US PGAs in a row but he doesn't seem to care about that kind of stuff.

"It doesn't seem to bother him."

While Koepka has struggled with a troublesome left knee, Molloy pointed out that the persistent injury showed no signs of hindering him during the WGC Invitational at Memphis last week.

"I think all he will have taken from last week is: 'I am back and I am ready.'

"And I think, therefore, he will get off to a good start and – in the opposite way to Rahm – no matter what happens with Koepka in the majors he hangs in there. He doesn't get rattled."

Recalling the 2019 Masters, Molloy referenced when Koepka hit into the water on the 12th but immediately responded with an eagle and a birdie.

"He got right back into it, so he is kind of unflappable and he has everything you need. I'd love to look at his stats after he makes a bogey because he seems to regather himself very well."

Adding to the argument for another Koepka challenge at this weekend's major, Peter Lawrie highlighted the importance of the team around Koepka, including his coach Pete Cowen.

"I would have to say, one of the best coaches there is on this planet is Pete Cowen," Lawrie proclaimed.

"He has coached so many good players. I can't even think of one player that he has made a mess of at all.

"No matter who you go back to and look at their career – if you have worked with Pete Cowen you have done exceptionally well."
