Jon Jones faces injury lay-off casting doubt over UFC 200 main event

If it hasn't already, the main event for UFC 200 is descending into farce.

Conor McGregor's faux retirement last week earned him a main event withdrawal, his refusal to travel from Iceland and his fight preparations to fulfil his media obligations has caused a suspected rift between him and UFC President, Dana White.

The light heavyweight division may have offered some solace for White, the rivalry rekindled between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones was fuelled further after Jones won the interim light heavyweight title at UFC 197.

This was mooted to be the replacement for McGregor v Diaz II, but the bout has taken another hit.

Jon Jones will have to undergo an x-ray on his left foot and requires clearance from an orthopaedic doctor, according to information released to MMA Fighting by the Nevada Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

If his x-ray comes back negative, Jones will be free to fight on the seminal card.

However if his x-ray comes back positive, Jones will have no choice but to receive orthopedic doctor's clearance or sit on the sidelines for upwards of six months (return date 21 October).
