Johnny Manziel's freefall continues as Browns cut ties with troubled star

Johnny Manziel's freefall continues after the man nicknamed Johnny "Football" was cut from the Cleveland Browns on Friday.

The news is not unexpected with plenty of reports suggesting the Browns had lost patience with the worrying behaviour of a player they drafted in the 1st round of the 2014 NFL draft.

Manziel rose to prominence as the all-action quarterback who won the Heisman Trophy in 2012 with Texas A&M. The 22-year-old has had his share of problems, however, with his own father, Paul Manziel, intensifying concerns over his behaviour stating, "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday."

The former Cleveland Browns quarterback entered rehab in January of last year following a litany of incidents involving, mostly, alcohol and social media. Manziel, however, continued on a rocky path following treatment and was involved in several social media posts that drew the attention of the media and Cleveland Browns' staff, which led to speculation about his behaviour and future in the league.

Manziel then suffered a concussion which ruled him out of the Browns' season finale against the Steelers and failed to show up to a meeting with medical staff at a team facility. That appeared to be a bridge too far for the Browns who, despite saying the situation was fixable, have decided to part ways with the former Heisman winner.

Manziel, a Texas native, was reportedly considered by the Dallas Cowboys as an option and would like to play for the team but with his history of alcohol abuse, his father's condeming words and the more recent incidents involving his girlfriend and mentions of domestic abuse, even Jerry Jones has reportedly chosen to distance himself from the train wreck that has become Johnny Manziel's NFL career and personal life.
