Jimmy White on the darkness of addiction and the journey to the light

Jimmy White's autobiography Second Wind does not shy away from some of the controversies from the snooker legend's past.

And according to the Whirlwind, the book has had a great effect on him and those around him.

The Englishman joined us on Off The Ball to open up about some of the revelations in the book.

"I do a lot of work with AA now. Basically I call [cocaine] the devil's dandruff in the book because you become a secret user and I was a big drinker so to have the cocaine would straighten me up to drink more. But I was so devious, you know. Very few people know," said White, who detailed how he burned through large sums of money and cooked crack cocaine with his best friend.

"When you start to take [cocaine] at home and on your own, you just become paranoid. You end up looking out the window, waiting for the police to come, sitting by a door handle. Now, Peewee is one of my best pals in life, got into the cocaine through me and through the limelight of the snooker. He got down that road. A bit got onto the floor and he put his foot on it...then when I got clean years later, you just realise that someone as genuine and as nice as that, how that drug got hold of him and made him lie about having it."

He also remembered an incident at a Kildare hotel in the '80s, which saw him and a friend tear a room apart in a bid to light a cooking fire, while he also chatted about his long friendship with Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.
