James McGee has moved one game away from featuring in the main draw of the Australian Open.
The Dubliner defeated Radu Albot 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the qualifying match. It is McGee's best ever performance at the Australian Open. He was knocked out in the Second Qualifying Round last year.
McGee now faces German Daniel Brands in the next round. Brands is ranked over 40-places higher than McGee in the current World Rankings.
If McGee were to beat the German, he would compete in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the second time in his career. The World's Number 199 ranked player lost in four sets to Aleksandr Nedovyesov at the US Open in the opening round in 2014.
