"It does something to you" - Conor McGregor discusses aftermath of Joao Carvalho tragedy

Conor McGregor has opened up about the aftermath of the tragic death of MMA fighter Joao Carvalho and the impact it has had on him.

In an exclusive interview with ESPN's Sports Centre about his relationship with the UFC in the wake of being pulled from July's UFC200 event, the UFC featherweight champion spoke about the impact of witnessing the tragedy.

Carvalho passed away after a bout with McGregor's SBG team-mate Charlie Ward at a mixed-martial arts event in Dublin in April.

McGregor had been in attendance and paid tribute to the Portuguese fighter after news of his death emerged.

In his interview with ESPN, McGregor said: "I had f***** journalists knocking down my mother's door, you know what I mean? That's not what I signed up to do - have people knocking on my mother's door, talking about a kid dying. It's not nice to see a kid die like that. It does something to you. And there's been show after show cancelled in Ireland since that. It's f***** up to be a part of it, and I didn't want to bring it back up and put it more on a public scale. After all that, I did not want to be put in front of a camera and made to dance. I just wasn't feeling it."
