Irish Olympic hopeful breaks national middle distance record for the second time

Middle distance runner Ciara Mageean has broken the Irish indoor mile record for the second time in a month.

The Down athlete was running at the Millrose Games in New York last night when she finished in sixth place in a time of 4:28:40. This time sits neatly alongside Mageean's 1500m record time of 4:08:66 which she set earlier in February.

Mageean has already qualified for the Rio Olympics and experts are confident that she will make the 1500m final.

Further to Mageean's impressive run in New York, Mark English finished second in Glasgow over the weekend in the 800m final at the Indoor Grand Prix.
