Walker fought back after the turn but the Irishman had built up a three hole lead after 18 holes.
It was all-square with three holes to play after Sugrue struggled on the par 3 15th.
However, the Irishman rallied down the stretch to seal a two hole victory.
The win makes him the eight Irish winner of the prestigious event and he now qualifies for the 2019 Open Championship as well as next year's Masters Tournament and US Open.
