Ireland's Adam Nolan falls short in Baku

Ireland's Adam Nolan has missed out on a medal at the European Games.

The Bray welterweight lost on a split decision to Great Britain's Josh Kelly in today's quarter-final in Baku.

Nolan narrowly lost the first round before Kelly's superior footwork helped him to win the second round on all three scorecards.

Nolan fought back strongly in the final round, opening-up a cut above his opponent's left eye, but could not do enough to force a stoppage.

It means that Sean McComb was the only one of the three Irish fighters in action today to secure a medal. The Belfast lightweight won his quarter-final this morning against Turkey's Yasin Yilmaz.

But there also was disappointment for Dean Walsh, who lost his light-welterweight quarter-final.
