Ireland crash out of World T20 following rain enforced defeat to Bangladesh

Ireland have been eliminated from the ICC World Twenty after persistent rain forced the abandonment of their match against Bangladesh in Dharamsala.

After a brief break from the rain, the game was rescheduled for 3.45pm Irish time with the teams contesting a 12 overs per side contest.

This loss means that regardless of the result of their remaining Group A game against the Netherlands, Ireland are out of contention to qualify for the Super 10 stage.

For the amount of play that took place, Ireland struggled in the wet conditions with Tamim Iqbal powering  Bangladesh to 94 for two in only eight of those overs.

An opening stand of 61 in under five overs saw Andy McBrne stump Soumya Sarka with one that turned but that was followed by Tamim, who hit four sixes and three fours in his 47 from 26 balls.

The rain quickly returned and with that, the game was abandoned. Ireland will play Netherlands on Sunday while Bangladesh will face Oman in the group decider afterwards.
