On this week's Golf Weekly former golf pro Gary Murphy said that Rory McIlroy can chase down Jack Nicklaus' record and that he is better than Tiger Woods in his prime.
John Hopkins, golf correspondent with The Times joined us on Off The Ball tonight and told us that he does not think that McIlroy is quite as good as Woods at his best on the course, but has superior qualities off it.
"I think in Rory we have a much more rounded individual and a much nicer person," said Hopkins.
"In many ways I think he is much more admirable as a citizen than Tiger, but I also don't think that he is quite as good as Tiger was and the reason is that Rory has had a hinterland. He has another life, he's been normal. Tiger really had an extraordinary upbringing."
He also believes that McIlroy will "lead us into an Edwardian Age of Splendor, coming out of the age of austerity led by Tiger Woods" with golf becoming "fun" and "enjoyable".
But he does not think that McIlroy will catch Tiger's 14 Majors.
