Australia's Nick Kyrgios has a reputation of being one of the more volatile on court personalities on the tennis circuit.
In a match last night in Canada against French Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, the 20 year told his Swiss opponent that “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that mate”.
The quote referred to Thanasi Kokkinakis and the 19 year old Croatian player Donna Vekic, who has reportedly been dating Wawrinka. Kokkinakis and Vekic have previously played together in doubles matches.
Kyrgios won the match after Wawrinka had to withdraw from the match in Montreal when he was trailing 4-0 in the final set. After the match, Kyrgios spoke to broadcaster Fox Sports about the comment, telling the interviewer that Wawrinka "was getting a bit lippy at me".
The World number number five has taken to his Twitter account this morning to voice his displeasure at Kyrgios' use of words during the match.
So disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine.
