Graeme McDowell drives up the world rankings

Shane Lowry remains in 53rd place in the latest golf world rankings after the weekend's Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The Offaly native ended the tournament in a tie for 16th place on 10-under par after the four rounds of action.

However, the biggest jump among the Irish is Graeme McDowell who is up eight places to 87th after his strong showing at the Dubai Desert Classic.

The Northern Irishman finished in a tie for 13th and had been in contention for a Top 3 finish at one point during the weekend.

Winner Sergio Garcia has jumped from 15th to 9th after his first victory on the European Tour in over three years.

At the top end of the rankings, Australia's Jason Day remains at No 1 overall, while Rory McIlroy is unchanged at No 2.

The latter has been absent from recent tournaments since picking up an injury at the South Africa Open in January where he finished runner up to Graeme Storm after a playoff.

The Northern Irishman is targeting a return to action at the WGC Mexico Championship in early March.

Rounding out the Top 5 in the world rankings are reigning European Tour Golfer of the Year Henrik Stenson of Sweden in third followed by USA's Dustin Johnson and Japan's Hideki Matsuyama who triumphed at the Phoenix Open for the second year in a row.

The 2015 Masters and US Open champion Jordan Spieth is sixth ahead of Australia's Adam Scott.

Padraig Harrington is at No 146.
