The Irish Government has confirmed that it will provide financial support for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, which will be hosted at The K Club in 2016.
Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe confirmed today that his Department would also be backing the tournament through Fáilte Ireland and Sport Ireland.
"As Minister for Tourism and Sport, I am very committed to the Irish Open. I am happy to confirm that the Government will be supporting the 2016 Irish Open through Fáilte Ireland, the national tourism development authority; and Sport Ireland, the statutory sports agency responsible for the promotion, development and coordination of sport in Ireland. With our abundance of golfing talent the 2016 Irish Open will present a superb opportunity for many of the great players from this island to perform in front of a home crowd, as well as thousands of visitors and millions of television viewers across the globe," he said.
Next year's tournament will once again be hosted by McIlroy's charitable foundation and the World No 1 is looking forward to returning to the venue for the 2006 Ryder Cup.
"I'm very excited to be involved with the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open again, going to the K Club next year and we just launched ticket sales today. A percentage of every ticket sold will go to the Rory Foundation which is fantastic. So, hopefully people get out there, buy their tickets early and snap them up. Hopefully, it's going to be another great year," he said.
