The Golden State Warriors' historic 24-0 start to their season has finally come to an end with a 108-95 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Bradley Centre.
The Warriors had won 28 games in a row when you take into account the last four games of last season. The longest winning streak in history was 33 games, which was achieved by the 71-72 LA Lakers. That streak, ironically, was also snapped by Milwaukee.
The Warriors interim coach Luke Walton was not happy with losing, but believes that there is more learning done through certain adversity. After the game, he said “Winning covers up a lot of mistakes. Our guys, they know how to win. But by doing that, you don’t get that same focus and growth on the little things.”
Steph Curry, the consensus best player in the world at this moment, had 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field. What was possibly most shocking was his six points on eight attempts from three point range, just 2-of-8. Everyone has an off day but there was a feeling that Steph Curry did not fit into the "everyone" field. He was, and still is, special but his shooting last night was off.
There was a debate on US Sports on Off The Ball recently as to whether the Warriors can be the best ever and while they are still well and truly on course, the manner of the defeat to the Bucks and Curry's shooting might be worrisome.
Curry and company, however, have remained humble throughout their winning streak and seemed relieved to no longer carry the burden of history on their shoulders.
Curry said, “You got no choice, obviously. It’s tough because nobody wanted to see it come to an end. Thirty-three [consecutive wins] was within our grasp, but 24-and-1, going home, hopefully handle business and get back to playing our best basketball.”
They travel back to Oakland, California and take on the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday as the look to get back on track in search of win number 25 out of a possible 26.
