GALLERY: The 2016 Formula One Grid

The new Formula 1 season officially began overnight as the first free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix got underway.

There are changes on the grid in 2016 as American team Haas join the F1 paddock for the first time. Renault also return after a four-year absence while Marussia have been renamed as Manor.

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton begins the season as favourite for the driver's title. His teammate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel are seen as the English driver's biggest rivals.

We will know far more about the season will pan out after the year's first race in Melbourne on Sunday. Until then take a look at the gallery of cars that will be on the grid this year.

As always, some of the teams have changed colour schemes of their livery while other teams remain true to tradition.
