A career best one one day international score of 109 by Niall O’Brien, was not enough to help Ireland against a strong New Zealand side in the Walton Tri-Nation series on Sunday.
After their opening game in the series against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain on Friday, Ireland were keen to register a win in the Malahide Cricket club.
O'Brien tried to keep Ireland's game alive, but after he became the eighth man out for 109, Ireland's chances of springing an upset were all but dashed.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner finished with five for 50 as the hosts were bowled out for 238 in the 46th over. Ireland also lost their last five wickets for 26 runs.
