Frampton and McGuigan on overcoming Kiko Martinez's revenge

This Saturday, Carl Frampton has the fists at the ready to welcome Kiko Martinez to Belfast's Titanic Quarter for an IBF Super Bantamweight title fight.

The two fought last year with Frampton beating the Spaniard by TKO in Round 9 and the Belfast native will be doing his level best to stop Martinez from gaining revenge in front of his home fans.

Frampton and his long-time manager Barry McGuigan dropped into studio ahead of the Belfast battle.

"He'll need to be a monster on the 6th of September because this guy is coming to win," said McGuigan of his protégé.

"Carl knows that this guy is coming vengeful to undo the knockout that he suffered 18 months ago. So Carl knows that he's got to be ready. He's trained exceptionally hard for this and it's a huge event. It's probably the biggest boxing audience that there has ever been in Northern Ireland."

Up to 16,000 people are expected to attend the fight at the purpose-built facility and despite the fervent atmosphere, Frampton will have his ears open for one or two voices alone.

"There's certain voices I can pick out. I can hear Barry and I can hear Shane but the rest of it just sounds like noise. But there are voices that I pick out that I want to hear and they're the ones that I listen to," said Frampton, who highlighted the "humbling" significance of fighting in his home city.

He also feels that Martinez's style suits him.

"Kiko's style is something that I love. I love people to bring it to me. I expect he's going to do the exact same thing again. I've dealt with it once and when I did deal with it that time, I made a lot of mistakes and I'll rectify those mistakes this time."

McGuigan also spoke about the constant comparisons between him and Frampton, and how both of them are in mixed marriages in a land beset by divisions during the Troubles.
