Forgotten Ryder Cup player from The K-Club wins for the first time in ten years on the PGA Tour

Vaughn Taylor remains one of the forgotten players from the 2006 Ryder Cup that was held in The K-Club.

History will look on that team as one of the weakest American groups that was ever sent to Europe for the biennial event. Taylor was one of four rookies in Tom Lehman's team. He played in two matches at the event earning his team half a point.

Brett Wetterich and JJ Henry were to of the other rookies and  failed to light up golf courses after their exploits in Kildare. The fourth debutant was Zach Johnson who has since gone on to win The Masters and The Open.

Taylor has come close to winning on the PGA Tour in recent years, but up until Sunday night, his previous win came at the 2005 Reno-Tahoe Open. The 39-year-old shot a 65 in the final round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am to defeat Phil Mickelson overnight in California.

The Virginia native missed birdie putts on 17 and 18 as he set a score for Mickelson and others to chase down. In the end, Mickelson missed a makeable birdie on the final hole to give Taylor a one-stroke win on -17.

Padraig Harrington finished just outside the top-20. The three-time major winner shot a final round 74 to finish on -7. Shane Lowry finished five-shots further back in a tie for 41st place.
