Efforts to try to keep Billy Walsh within High Performance Unit to continue into tonight

The battle to keep Billy Walsh within the Irish High Performance Unit is likely to continue well into tonight.

The Minister for Sport is planning to speak with both the Irish Amateur Boxing Association and Sport Ireland in an effort to find an 11th hour resolution to the dispute.

Walsh resigned as head coach of the High Performance unit this week, and is set to take up a role with USA Boxing - departing for the States tomorrow.

Earlier Chairman of Sport Ireland, Kieran Mulvey, told a meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee today that he is willing to keep looking for a solution up "until the fat lady sings".

Mulvey also revealed that one of the demands that the IABA were trying to enforce on Walsh was that the head coach would have to seek their before speaking with the Olympic Council of Ireland, the Irish Sports Council or the media.

On Monday night, Walsh outlined the reasons why he felt compelled to resign from his role in the High Performance Unit.
