Did Conor McGregor underestimate Nate Diaz?

What went wrong for Conor McGregor in his Las Vegas defeat to Nate Diaz?

Weight jumps were one factor but according to Pundit Arena's MMA journalist Richard Barrett, the Dubliner may have underestimated his opponent and the impact of the weight gain.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, he said: "I think Conor came into this fight underestimating Diaz. I believe he thought the victory was there already and he's a very confident person as it is. But he did not understand the differences going from 145lb to 169lb. That's an incredible amount of weight to put on. I think he underestimated the fact that Diaz has been around the block."

But Barrett did praise McGregor's boldness when it comes to picking tough opponents rather than taking less risky fights.
