Former Irish athletics star Derval O'Rourke has revealed her bafflement at the comments of World Anti-Doping agency report author Dick Pound regarding IAAF president Sebastian Coe.
Today, Dick Pound detailed a report that found that the IAAF council, which includes the current president Sebastian Coe, "could not have been unaware of the extent of doping in athletics".
However, in his press conference, Pound also spoke of his belief that Coe is the right person to lead athletics into a new era of reform after a period tainted by doping scandals.
He said: "There's an enormous amount of reputational recovery that has to occur here and I can't think of anyone doing better than Lord Coe to lead that. So all our fingers are crossed in that respect."
Reacting to those comments, former sprint hurdler O'Rourke signaled her surprise at Pounds' view:
I'm finding Dick Pounds comments that Seb Coe is the person to lead athletics utterly baffling considering today's report #wada #athletics
