Cricket enters a new era with the advent of day-night Test matches

After years of planning, cricket has finally entered a new era with the introduction of day-night Test Matches.

Australia and New Zealand are playing in Adelaide this weekend, where the final session of the match will be played under floodlights at the Adelaide Oval.

The introduction of day-night matches are to try and increase the popularity of the oldest form of the game. One Day International and T20 matches are regularly played under floodlights around the World.

A pink ball has been introduced for the format, instead of the traditional red ball for test matches. Pink was chosen as the best colour to see the ball for players under the floodlights.

The historic occasion certainly gained the public's attention as over 45,000 attended the first day of a potential five. The number is even more impressive as Australia are guaranteed not to lose the Test Series. They lead 1-0 with the match in Adelaide concluding the series.

New Zealand failed to survive the first day as they were all bowled out for 202. Australia look on course to have a First Innings advantage.
