Conor McGregor's $10m earnings softens blow of UFC defeat as he shows brave face at Las Vegas after party

For the first time since he conceded defeat to Joe Duffy in 2010, Conor McGregor was forced to tap-out once again at UFC 196 after Nate Diaz wrapped him up in a rear naked choke.

The World Featherweight champion spoke valiantly after the bout and told UFC commentator Joe Rogan ''it is what it is'' and congratulated Nate Diaz for accepting the fight, just 11 days out from the fight. He also spoke defiantly in the post-fight press conference about his willingness to accept defeat as well as his intentions to return to the Featherweight division to defend his crown.

And McGregor maintained that brave face for the after-party in the otherwise cruelly named 'Surrender' nightclub as he posed for selfies and engaged with the droves of fans who came to support their bruised idol.

McGregor has an active online persona and he took to social media in the aftermath of the bout to reiterate his desire to recover from this disappointment.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

I stormed in and put it all on the line. I took a shot and missed. I will never apologize for taking a shot.Shit...

But despite the piercing pain of defeat, Conor McGregor will at least be able to bring home some monetary comforts from his disappointing trip to Las Vegas that are likely to come to the tune of $10m.

This figure includes the guaranteed $1m purse plus the millions he expects to take home from the pay-per-view earnings and sponsorship deals.

Speaking to the CNBC, McGregor said: ''I'm going to breeze past the $10 million mark,'' a figure which reputable MMA websites believe is possible considering that he pocketed $8m after his 13 second KO of Jose Aldo a few months ago.

The UFC believe McGregor will be their first $100 millionaire in time, and if he continues to gross earnings like this on the back of fights, that could be an accurate forecast.
