Following his phenomenal title win over Jose Aldo last month, Dublin City Council announced that a civic reception would take place to celebrate Conor McGregor's success.
It has since emerged however, that Conor McGregor's agent sent an email to the Lord Mayor's office, outlining a number of complaints about the details of the event.
A report in The Sunday Times reveals that Lynn Hunter, McGregor's representative, criticised Dublin City Council for allegedly ''announcing a civic reception before McGregor had been given a chance to discuss it privately with Dublin City Council.''
In correspondence which was uncovered via the Freedom of Information Act, Hunter also accused Mayor Críona Ní Dhálaigh of authorising the reception for 'political reasons'.
A petition campaigning for a civic reception in McGregor's honour garnered over 18,000 signatures, but according to the report, Hunter stressed that an agreement should have been reached with the UFC champion before the event was publicised.

Hunter said ''I understand pressure that the lord mayor is under to host such an event. However, it should have not have been announced to the press without Conor McGregor's agreement.''
The lord mayor's office has since responded to McGregor's agent, saying "please accept our reassurances that we did not mean to place Conor in a difficult position regarding this civic reception. The lord mayor is not a candidate in the upcoming election and in no way was she extending the invitation for any political reason".
Conor McGregor has yet to give a formal response to the invitation, and whle the council has stated that the plans are "very much alive", his coach John Kavanagh stated that it "is a great honour [but] it's not something we're massively keen on".
