It's the sporting abomination of 2016 that does not seem to be going away.
Conor McGregor, fresh off his first loss in the UFC and Floyd Mayweather, desperate to stay relevant after entering retirement for a second time, look set to meet in a boxing fight, if reports are to be correct.
The Dubliner has been active on social media in recent weeks, since the fight was first mooted. Overnight, he put up the least subtle hint yet by posting a picture some boxing boots.
Does McGregor really believe this fight will go ahead? Is he a pawn in an elaborate plan by his sponsor to promote their boxing products?
Either way, the "fight" continues to wreak of the smell of make-belief. Whether it happens, remains to be seen.
Despite McGregor trying his hardest to push this fight (at least in public), it's difficult to escape from the words of Kieran Cunningham, the Irish Daily Star's Chief Sports Writer.
There is only one way the fight would finish and everyone knows it.
Would Floyd Mayweather have a chance against a fella who was beaten in the quarter-finals of the Ireland Intermediate boxing champs?
