A petition to put Conor McGregor's face on the €1 coin has been deemed inadmissible.
It has been struck down by the Oireachtas Petitions Committee, which says it could not contact the person responsible for submitting it.
However, it has urged anyone favouring the call to contact the Central Bank.
The petition was submitted in the days after the Crumlin fighter defeated José Aldo to claim the UFC Featherweight Championship.
It was examined for compliance with standing orders, according to the Oireachtas website.
If the plan was to go ahead, Ireland would need to get the support of every other Euro member as the coin would be legal tender in those countries.
Committee chairman Padraig Mac Lochlainn says he regrets having to dismiss the petition, suggesting what designs go on coins "is a matter of public interest":
McGregor himself earlier threw his support behind the petition, saying the coin would be a 'true honour':
It would be a true honour for me to be immortalised on the €1 coin! Thank you to my fans for the petition!Let's go Oireachtas! Vote YES :-)
