Conor McGregor honoured with Sports Illustrated cover

Fresh from posing with fans in Galway, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has just been revealed as the cover star of the new edition of Sports Illustrated. Under the headline, “Conor McGregor puts the fight in Fighting Irish... and the fear in the rest of the UFC,” the notorious Dublin brawler is only the third MMA star to make the cover of the famous magazine.

In the featured interview with McGregor, the Irishman speaks candidly about his path to the top of the MMA scene, despite his modest origins: “I just figured out that if I gave my all into this game... If I put everything into the fight business, then I would eventually run the fight business.”

“That’s where we are right now,” he adds.

McGregor is currently in training for his forthcoming title challenge bout against the lightweight title holder Rafael dos Anjos, who called off the March 5th fight due to a broken foot.

In Sports Illustrated, McGregor makes it clear despite the delay, he’ll come out fighting when the title challenge takes place. And his outline of his career goals seems pretty resolute:

“Take all the belts, take all the money, ride back to beautiful Dublin, Ireland, into the sunset,” the 27-year-old said.
