Chris Gayle has had a love-hate relationship with the Australian public in recent weeks.
The West Indies star was caught up in a sexism controversy recently when he asked a television reporter out on a date live on air. Gayle's on-air behaviour caused uproar in Australia and he was fined by his team, the Melbourne Renegades.
Last night, the cricketing public saw the best of Gayle as he equalled the world record for the quickest ever half-century in Twenty20 history. Gayle scored 50 off 12 balls and ended up scoring 56 runs in 17 balls. His innings included two 4's and seven 6's.
Gayle equalled the record that was set by Indian Yuvraj Singh in a game against India in 2007. The historic innings was not enough to help the Melbourne Renegades beat Adelaide Strikers. The loss ended the Renegades' run in the Big Bash tournament.
