Barack Obama personally calls the Denver Broncos after Super Bowl 50 win

It's a tradition that continues year after year, no matter what the final result is.

American President Barack Obama personally rang the Denver Broncos to congratulate them on Tuesday after their Super Bowl 50 win.

Head Coach Gary Kubiak and linebacker DeMarcus Ware were on the other end of the line as Obama compared Denver's defence to the 1985 Chicago Bears. That Bears defence is generally regarded as the best defence in the history of the NFL.

Obama was ringing to extend another tradition to the Super Bowl winners, an invitation to the White House. The winners of the major American leagues are invited every year to the White House to meet the President. Obama, whose tenure is in its final months, revealed he hoped to meet the team before he leaves the White House.

The win on Sunday night was Denver's third ever Super Bowl triumph, and their first in the 21st Century.
