BAMMA have confirmed that refunds are available after the decision to postpone their June MMA event to September 10th.
BAMMA 26 was due to take place on June 4th at Dublin's 3 Arena but has been moved three months in order to facilitate the introduction of mandatory MRI/MRA scans for fighters in the wake of the death of Portuguese mixed-martial artist Joao Carvalho after a separate Dublin event in April.
"We understand and welcome the fact that regulation for this sport is being put in place here in Ireland. But whilst we await this regulation and the results from the numerous discussions that are currently taking place, we have taken the step to introduce mandatory MRI/MRA scans for all of our fighters for the BAMMA 26 event onwards," said BAMMA CEO David Green.
In the statement, the promotion also confirmed that "all tickets already purchased for the event will be honoured, though refunds are available".
Dan Healy, Consultant Neurologist at Beaumont Hospital welcomed the decision to postpone the event in order to bring in increased safety measures.
"These measures make MMA safer; a Rubicon moment. BAMMA have set a new standard that I encourage others to follow. We must all work together on this."
