Conor McGregor's bringing out the Mayweather of old

If Conor McGregor wanted to send a subliminal message to Floyd Mayweather, he did so via the pinstripe design on his suit which simply read infinity times "F*** You".

Tuesday night was the first edition of the duo's international promotion tour as they look to ratchet up the hype ahead of their late August fight.

Mind games are also going to be an undercurrent and there is a school of thought that some of the training videos of McGregor looking off the pace are part of a ploy to lull the Mayweather camp into a false sense of security.

Leading MMA writer Ariel Helwani has been pondering that as he told Off The Ball tonight as he shared his reaction to the first port of call in the promotion tour.

"There's a theory that at least I've thought about whether has been sort of putting out videos of himself looking slower than he is just to throw people off. I don't know if that's true. But Conor's a pro when it comes to this stuff. I thought it was really interesting to observe him after the press conference. He's just having such a great time with all this."

Helwani who spoke to McGregor after last night's world tour press conference at Staples Centre, Los Angeles, also noted that one of Mayweather's old personas appears to have been dusted off and brought back to light.

"He returned to the old 'Pretty Boy Floyd' - the cocky, obnoxious, braggadocios Floyd Mayweather. The last couple of years, he hasn't really had a good foil where it was necessary to play that role. But now he has that perfect foil and so I am expecting Conor to come out swinging more this time round," he said, adding "it's a nice little curveball to start things off".
