2015: The Year of the Spieth

2015 will be forever remembered as "The Year of the Spieth" in the golfing world.

22 year old Jordan Spieth, last night won the end of season Tour Championship in Atlanta and in the process won the FedEx Cup which came with a $10million bonus. For four days work at East Lake GC, Spieth pocketed just under $11.5million. His end of season earnings came to just over $22million.

While Mr Spieth's bank manager will be happy with the Texan's earnings, it is Spieth's trophy cabinet which has written the World number one into golf's history books. Wins at Augusta and Chambers Bay meant Spieth was half way to a calendar Grand Slam after wins at The Masters and US Open.

A tied fourth place finish at St Andrew's, falling one shot outside the four hole playoff to win The Open and a second place finish at the PGA Championship, capped off an outstanding year for Spieth in golf's four majors. Only Zach Johnson, Mark Leishman, Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Day finished ahead of Spieth this year in one of golf's big four tournaments.

The equation was very simple for Spieth, ahead of this week's Tour Championship. A win on the East Lake course resulted in a FedEx Cup win. The two time major winner won in the end by four strokes as Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose and Danny Lee all failed to catch Spieth despite him shooting a one under par round of 69 in his final 18 holes.

He started the final day with a one shot lead over Stenson and as the Swede fell away on the back nine, Spieth recorded seven straight pars from the 12th to guarantee victory.

While many will remember Spieth for his major exploits, the World number one became the youngest winner of the Tour Championship and will undoubtedly be named the PGA Tour's Player of the Year. Last night's win cemented 2015 as the year that belonged to the Dallas native.
