12-year-old golfer Tom McKibbin hails from Newtownabbey in Antrim, and over the weekend he won the prestigious Under-12 World Junior Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
The young star shot three rounds of 69-75-73 to claim the title by a single stroke, and excitedly tweeted out news of his victory along with a picture of himself holding the trophy.

His performances so far have already caught the attention of some of Ireland's and Northern Ireland's pro golfers, including Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy. McDowell even got McKibbin VIP passes to The Irish Open and The Open recently so that he could get a taste of what might await him in the future if he keeps playing like he has, while he now holds the record at McIlroy's former home course in Moneyreagh.
