Former Ireland international John Giles thinks Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's tenure as Manchester United manager will be tougher now that he's signed a contract to become permanent manager of the Lancashire club.
The Norwegian signed a three-year deal to step in to the Old Trafford hot seat on full-time basis.
Giles joined Nathan Murphy on OTB's Thursday Night Football to discuss the appointment.
"I think it's going to be a far more difficult job for him to do and continue on from where he is. We will wait and see on that,' said Giles.
The former Leeds expressed his admiration for the job Solksjaer has done in his three months at the helm, but says the former United striker wouldn't of been his choice to take the job permanently.
"Yes, I think it is but yet again, and as I've said before: I would have gone for Pochettino if he was available, rather than Solksjaer.
The United manager has won 10 of his 13 Premier League fixtures whilst in charge as caretaker manager but the Irishman says he deserves the opportunity after rejuvenating the team and their fortunes.
"It's going to be a different job now, as he goes along, to the one he took over. The one he took at over at, he's done exceptionally well at and he deserves the chance to do it.
John Giles thinks the real challenge will start this summer when Manchester United hit the transfer market and new players are brought into the squad.
He thinks the challenges will be vastly different from United's current season.
"It's going to be particularly different for him because it's a new season, new players will be coming in. The players that have done well for him now will be out of the squad, and their not going to be too happy! - these are the kind of things that come in to management.
