John Giles has said that Manchester United player Mason Greenwood is one of the best players he’s ever seen at that age.
The former Republic of Ireland manager told Off The Ball that the 18-year-old centre forward has all the qualities to be the best in the game.
Discussing Manchester United’s potential goalscoring forwards, Giles wasn’t sure if Greenwood could replace Marcus Rashford up top but was certain that he’ll be a top-class player in the future.
“I think were Greenwood is playing at the moment, could well be his best position. I think this kid is the Real McCoy,” Giles said.
“He’s coming in on the right wing on his left foot, but then in another match a couple of weeks ago, he took it on his right foot and put it in the corner of the net.
“I think this kid is one of the best I’ve ever seen at his age.”
Giles said he expected Marcus Rashford to improve much more during his time at United saying he’ll not be anywhere near as good as Liverpool’s Salah or Mané.
However, Giles said Greenwood on the other hand is a player that works hard and frustrates defenders.
“He’s good on both feet, he’s quick, he can obviously dribble. If you’re both footed like he is, it’s impossible for defenders, because you put them on their bad foot, which is what you’re supposed to do as a defender but he doesn’t have a bad foot.
“I haven’t seen many players that can come off both feet in the way that he does. He’s also prepared to work hard so he has all the qualities. If he looks after himself, he’ll be one of the best in my opinion.
“I would have to see him playing up front to see would he be any better. If he continues to improve from the position that he’s in, he’ll be brilliant anyway.”
