Former Chairman of Dublin County Board dies

John Bailey passed away overnight following an illness.

It is understood that the Fine Gael councillor had been battling motor neuron disease.

Bailey was chairman of the Dublin County Board for ten years and played a key role in the redevelopment of Parnell Park during the 90s.

A lifelong member of Cuala GAA club in Dalkey, he refereed the 1986 All-Ireland Senior hurling final between Cork and Galway.

Bailey was first elected to the council in 2004 in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown constituency.
