Two point line could make football "even better than what it is" | Kieran Donaghy

Kieran Donaghy discussed the idea of bringing a 'two-point line' into the GAA.

“It’s just a suggestion, we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel,” said Donaghy, speaking on The Shot Clock on OTB AM.

“I’m just looking down the line, I’m almost looking ten, twenty years away," he added.

The former Footballer of the Year compared the proposal to the NBA’s decision to introduce the three-point line:

“In 1979 the NBA brought in the three-point line and the three-point line revolutionised the game.” He said the introduction meant that players worked on the shot and it became a "weapon and a comeback tool.”

Long game

“If you had a two-point line in ten or twenty years ... it would be a hugely exciting way to help our game become even better than what it is.”

“We’ve people that encourage you not to kick the ball from outside 45 now, yet everybody wants to see these long kicks.”

He believes that modern tactics are working long (and lower percentage) shots out of the game and that experimenting with scoring rules could encourage teams and individuals to take their kicking games to a new level.
