Westmeath's promotion to the Allianz League Division 3 was confirmed on Sunday with a 3-24 to 0-09 win over a weakened Wexford team in Wexford Park.
Tom Cribbin's side earned promotion with a week to spare. They will face Wexford once more in the Division 4 Final next month, but bot teams are already assured of promotion.
2018 will be the sixth year in a row that Westmeath have played in a separate division from the one they competed in the year before. As recently as 2014 the county were in Division 1, but three successive relegations sent Cribbin's side to the bottom tier for 2017.

Speaking to Midlands 103 Sport after the win, Cribbin said promotion was the main objective of the game, despite playing against a weakened team.
"I see us in a great position", he revealed, when asked where the team are at the moment. "We're getting a day out in Croke Park in two weeks time. We're going up, instead of down. The panel is stronger this year. It's a very good young panel".
Westmeath play London next week, despite reaching the Final. Cribbin said he will make "a fair few changes" for the London game, as he looks to improve squad depth ahead of their Championship opener against Offaly.
