'The season became a struggle after that Tyrone game'

Donegal welcome Tyrone to Ballybofey on Sunday week in a repeat of their famous 2013 Ulster Championship Preliminary Round tie.

Jim McGuinness' side went into that game as All Ireland Champions after beating Mayo in the final the year before. When the provincial draw was made, many assumed that the winner of the Preliminary Round match would go on and win the Anglo Celt Cup.

Current Donegal manager Rory Gallagher was assistant to McGuinness in 2013 and he spoke yesterday to Newstalk Sport's Dave McIntyre at the launch of the 2015 Ulster Championship in Donegal town.

Donegal defeated Tyrone that day in Ballybofey but would surprisingly go on to lose to Monaghan in the Ulster final.

After overcoming Laois in the qualifiers in Carrick on Shannon, Donegal's season ended at the hands on Mayo in Croke Park in the All Ireland quarter finals, losing the game by 16 points.

Tyrone entered the 2013 qualifiers in the first round and went the whole way to the semi finals before losing to Donegal's conquerors Mayo.
