The Saturday Panel: Life outside sport, and why you should never get a taxi from Donegal to Clare

A bizarre story about getting a taxi from Donegal to a match in Clare (via Carlow) was the central talking point of an extraordinary panel today on Off The Ball.

Eamon McGee, Anthony Moyles and John Heslin joined Ger Gilroy to talk about a huge range of topics, and the panel started with a pretty deep question about the way that sportspeople see themselves outside their sport.

McGee talked about how he switches off with friends who have no clue about football and wouldn't even know the way to Croke Park, and that's a great way to get away from it.

However, he also had a great story about the days when there was a bit more drinking done by GAA players, and recounted a strange tale of going "out for one", missing the bus to the match in Clare the following day, and ending up in a pub in Galway having "two quick pints" with a group who were in for a funeral and were, apparently, "great craic".

The panel also turned their attention to the topic that has been the main talking point all week in the wake of Tyrone's match against Monaghan last weekend, and whether or not sledging or diving was getting out of hand in the sport as a whole.

You can listen to the full panel from today below, or find it on Soundcloud.
