Mayo manager Stephen Rochford says he is happy with the manner of his side's victory over over Kildare this evening, but urged his players to perform consistently over 70 minutes.
Mayo ran out nine point winners over their opponents this evening at Elverys McHale Park and Rochford insists that there is more to come from his side.
"Good, I'm happy with the eventual win," he told Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre. "The performance was patchy at times, certainly in the first half until we scored the two goals in the five or six minutes heading up to half time.
"We certainly weren't reflecting on the scoreboard the good things that we were doing out the field, but we were creating the chances. Donal Vaughan had an opportunity that could have ended up in the back of the net. Diarmuid [O'Connor] had another. I felt we were going the right way but we need to reflect it on the scoreboard.... Plenty to still improve on."
There was a 20 minute period where Mayo dominated possession and created the majority of the chances. Rochford, though, says that they did well outside of this spell.
"If you were to put a clock on it, we played well for 40 minutes of the game. We have to get that up to 70 minutes coming up against a provincial loser in the next round."
He also praised the efforts of his forwards this evening, but exercised caution, explaining that their form won't guarantee success for Mayo.
"One swallow doesn't make a summer. Let's see what we're like in two weeks time and if we're that level of performance and we're hitting that spread of scores... I think last week five out of our six forwards scored and that's a big change compared to the level of conversion we had against Galway. I think it's pleasing but we're very much a work in progress."
